So it’s 2012 and this is my first post. Yeah. That’s ok though. In case you don’t know, I take a month long hiatus from social media in December, which gives me a chance to disconnect from some unwanted distractions. Social media is great, I get a lot of good info from it, but in the end I don’t have to have it, and that’s why I take a month off at least once a year. So with that said, I have a few things I want to say.
First, the last couple months of 2011 were harder than I gave it credit for. Most years I can cruise the last two months of the year due to the holidays and all the extra time off I normally have. This year, I got to buy two cars, get a 7 year old ready for being a ringbearer in a wedding, and let my wife quit her job so she could stay at home with our little one. That’s a lot of change in a very short amount of time, so to say it’s been an adjustment is a total underestimation of the situation!
But I’ll take it because I know as stressed as my wife can get being at home sometimes, she’d rather be at home then working. And as much as I miss the extra income, it’s nice to know I don’t have to go figure out where my kids are everyday when I get home from work. But you get the point….
Secondly, and this is where I wanted to make the bigger announcement, I’ve been thinking/praying over the past year about recording a 5 song EP. Not top studio quality mind you, but something that I can say is mine and I can give to friends, family, and maybe score an occasional gig out of. Over the past year I’ve slowly been rebuilding a very small but modest home studio, and I feel like I finally have all the pieces in place to be able to pull this off. I’ve got an idea how I want this to sound like, and I think I can get the players I want for this project, so I’m revamping a few older songs that I’ve written and never recorded, and hope that they sound better years later. But I’ve been thinking, and when I was young(er) I always wanted to put an album together one day, and I thought it would never happen because I didn’t sing great or couldn’t play any instrument. At least one of those issues has been resolved, at least I hope! But more details will be revealed as I put them into action. All things taken into account, I hope to be done with my EP by May or early June.
So that’s all for tonight’s edition of my ramblings. Stay tuned, because next time we will be discussing the difference between free will and free agency. Fun topic!
